Moreinu V'Rabeinu HaRav Alter Chanoch Henoch Leibowitz ztz"l was born in Eastern Europe
in 1916. In 1933, his father HaRav Dovid Leibowitz ztz"l established
Yeshivas Rabbenu Yisroel Meir HaCohen (Rabbinical Seminary of America) in
New York City, in memory of his great uncle, the sainted
Chofetz Chaim ztz"l. Tragically, Reb Dovid died in 1941 at a young age, leaving his
only son to take over the yeshiva at the tender age of 26. Under the
leadership of Rabbi Henoch Leibowitz, the small yeshiva grew to a major
Torah institution with branches and affiliates all across North America
and Israel. Congregation Kehillas Torah is proud to be one of those
affiliates.
